Ryan Blackburn is the chef patron of Michelin starred Old Stamp House and Michelin plated Kysty, both located in Ambleside, in the heart of the Lake District at the head of England's largest natural lake, Windermere.

Being a keen fisherman he probably has more of an insight than most into the state of our watercourses. There's absolutely no doubt that Wild Atlantic Salmon stocks are in a dramatic free fall. It can be seen on the big Scottish rivers, which are mainly in low density population areas, in Wales and right across rural England.

In Ryan's mind there's no doubt at all that pollution has and continues to play a significant part in this decline, and the evidence of ever-increasing levels of human effluent, phosphates, nitrates or other chemicals being pumped into our watercourses is irrefutable.

It's clear to Ryan that as a chef you have to be aware of your environment and surroundings - to be aware of the relationship between food and nature - and it is because of this awareness that he is fully behind the Save Windermere campaign.
