Matt Staniek Named One of the UK’s Most Impactful Environmental Campaigners
We’re proud to announce that Save Windermere’s founder and director, Matt Staniek, has been named on the 2025 ENDS Power List, recognising the 100 individuals making the biggest impact on the UK’s environmental policy — and specifically, one of only 18 campaigners acknowledged for shaping green policy and legislation over the past two years.
This national recognition follows a landmark year for the campaign. In recent months, Save Windermere has secured a public commitment from Environment Secretary Steve Reed to end sewage pollution in Windermere — a major milestone in our fight to protect one of the UK’s most iconic lakes.
“I’m incredibly honoured to be named on the 2025 ENDS Power List, alongside 18 other environmental campaigners who have made the greatest national impact on green policy and legislation over the last two years,” Matt said.
“Most notably in the last year, we have secured a commitment from Steve Reed to end sewage pollution in Windermere. But we’re not stopping here. We will keep campaigning until we secure a legally binding commitment that ensures Windermere can never be exploited again, and that it is finally free from sewage pollution.”
Matt’s inclusion on the list is testament not only to his tireless campaigning, but to the thousands of people who have stood alongside Save Windermere, from the community on the ground, to the legal and scientific experts behind the scenes, and everyone who has signed petitions, written to their MPs or donated to support our work.
